Suresh Kavan – Chief Executive Officer, dmg information, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, dmg :: event

Suresh has been CEO of dmg information since August 2008. In October, 2009 Suresh also became Chairman and CEO of the dmg events business.

Previously he was President of the $2.5bn Investment & Advisory group at Thomson Reuters, having joined Thomson in 2000 from I/B/E/S International, where he was President and CEO. Suresh holds a BS in Economics from University College London.

He has been involved in the b2b information industry for 20 years, holding a variety of positions in sales, marketing, research, technology, product development, business development and general management. He has worked extensively in Europe, Asia and North America.

Galen Poss, Chief Operating Officer, dmg :: events

Galen joined dmg events in January 2011 after spending ten years as President of Hanley Wood Exhibitions.

He began his career in events in 1977 with the Greater New Orleans Tourist and Convention Commission. In 1983 he founded Precision Planning & Sales (PPS) Inc, an exhibitions management company, which he sold to Miller Freeman in 1993, where he served as Group President for the Dallas Division prior to joining Hanley Wood in January 2000.

Paul Sykes, CFO, dmg information and dmg events

Paul has been with DMGT for fourteen years as CFO of dmg information and has also been responsible for dmg events. During his tenure he has played a significant role in the acquisition and development of all the current information businesses and RMS.

Initially based in Cambridge, UK, Paul is now based in the US as this is the focal point of dmg information activity.

Prior to DMGT, he had held several roles at EMAP plc, a major UK media group and gained extensive experience in acquisitions and disposals, and raising both equity and debt finance as Group Treasurer. He qualified as a chartered accountant with the accounting and audit firm, KPMG.

Paul is a graduate of Leicester University with an honours degree in Economics.

Paul M. Vogt, General Counsel

Paul received his BA (summa cum laude) in Political Science and Economics from Fordham University, and his JD from Harvard Law School.

Paul started his legal career in the Hartford office of Robinson & Cole, working in their corporate practice group. He then spent nine years in the New York office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, making partner in the Business & Finance group in 2001. While at Morgan, Lewis, Paul advised clients on a variety of corporate and commercial matters, including complex cross-border mergers and  acquisitions, joint ventures, investments, and organizational matters. He was also responsible for the continuing legal education program for all Business & Finance attorneys across all offices of the firm.

He is admitted to practice law in Connecticut and New York.

Sue Quackenbush, Vice President, Human Resources, dmg information and dmg events

Susan joined dmg information and events in November 2010 as VP, HR and is responsible for the creation and execution of dmg information and events' talent agenda as well as providing functional leadership across the HR professional team.

Prior to joining, she held a number of HR roles including: Head of HR, BT Global Banking and Financial Services; Head of Resourcing and Organisational Capability, BT Americas; VP, Retention and Redeployment, Thomson (Reuters); Director, Recruiting and Workforce Planning, Thomson (Reuters) and started her professional career holding a number of roles in corporate finance at Ford, Honeywell, Dunn and Bradstreet and Thomson (Reuters).

Susan is a graduate of Cook College - Rutgers University, with a BS degree in Environment Economics and Drexel University, where she graduated with an MBA.

Erik joined dmg in October 2010 and is responsible for strategy and acquisitions across the dmgi/dmg events portfolio of companies. In his role, Erik works with the leadership of our portfolio companies to help identify and evaluate new growth opportunities and assist in the evaluation and execution of "acquisitions. Prior to dmgi, he held a number of business development and strategy roles including; Senior Director, Strategy and M&A at Lexis Nexis, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development at PRIMEDIA and Consultant at Marakon Associates, a strategy management consulting firm

 

Divisional Presidents

Mark Carr – President, Energy Sector, dmg events

Mark heads up dmg events' Energy Sector.

He joined dmg events back in 1997, and developed their art and antiques show division, including the launch and growth of a strong online publishing business.  In 2004, he began to build dmg events' technology event sector, a market with huge recovery potential following the dotcom crash at the start of the century.  After acquiring ad:tech, iMedia and Evanta within an 18 month timeframe, the sector grew to be one of dmg's largest through a process of cloning events across the world.

Mark also oversaw the restructuring of dmg's Australian business and the UK Business Media operations prior to their sale in 2009, then in late 2009 he assumed responsibility for dmg's Energy businesses in Europe and North America, including the market-leading Gastech and Global Petroleum Show events.

Having started his professional life as a research engineer, Mark qualified as a chartered accountant (CPA) in 1990, working on mergers and acquisitions in London, before moving into an operational role as part of a turnaround team of an international graphic arts business.

Geoff Dickinson – President, Middle East & Asia, dmg events

Geoff joined dmg events in September 2010. Previously, he has held several senior roles with a number of exhibition companies, including emap, Focus Events, Trade & Public Exhibitions, Haymarket Exhibitions and BBC Haymarket Exhibitions. He moved to Dubai in 1994 to set up IIR Exhibitions Middle East as Managing Director and became Managing Director, Middle East & Far East in 1996. By 1997 he was Global Managing Director for IIR Exhibitions and Regional Managing Director Conferences for Middle East & Eastern Europe operating 16 offices. He founded Epoc International in 1998, launching 12 trade fairs, before he sold the business to Frankfurt Exhibition centre in 2005. In 2006 he opened Mecom Forums and sold his first two events to IIR/Informa.

Susan C. MacDermid, President Digital Marketing Division dmg events

Susan MacDermid manages a portfolio of digital marketing events and media businesses. She has global responsibility for ad:tech Expositions and Conferences, iMedia Summits, iMediaConnection.com, CMO Collective, The Digital Collective, and the Marketing Leadership Exchange (MLX). Every year, these events gather together 75,000 marketers with a combined budget of US $50 billion. Prior to her current role, Susan ran interactive agencies in Asia, Europe and the US, and has a background as a strategist in emerging mass media, especially how models for content, subscription, and advertising evolve based on enabling technologies.

Michael Green, President, dmg events USA

Michael Green has over 30 years’ experience in the events industry. Most recently, he provided management consulting services to companies in the industry. In 2000, Green co-founded Hanley Wood Exhibitions and served as Executive Vice President of the group. He helped lead the HWE events division from a start-up in 2000 to the company’s most successful unit by 2005. Green was integral in the sale of HWE in 2005, one of the 10 largest business-to-business media transactions at that time.

Prior to HWE, Green was Senior Vice President, U.S. Exhibitions, Miller Freeman, where he was responsible for corporate management of 100-plus U.S. events. He started his events career co-founding Precision Planning & Sales, an exhibitions management company that produced 20 industry events annually.
